Facility Protection — Air Quality
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought into view the issues related with indoor air quality. To support the return of people to occupied spaces, building owners are seeking new technologies that can not only offer a better, safer environment, but can accomplish this goal at a reasonable cost. Given the possible airborne spread of the virus, indoor air quality has become a major consideration.
The two leading technologies available to address air purification are Ultraviolet Light (UV) and Bi-Polar Ionization. Each technology offers a different approach to purification.
Apadana consults with each customer to help determine the optimum solution based on their facility’s air handling capacity.
Bi-Polar Ionization.
Ion air purifiers cycle air through the facility HVAC system, adding an electromagnetic charge to the particles that flow through. These charged particles float back into the space and are eventually cycled back to the ionizer where they will be captured and filtered. To make it easy, you can basically think of an ionizer as a big particle magnet.
The ions breakdown harmful volatile organic compounds into harmless compounds like O2, CO2, N2, and H2O, inactivating the pathogens by disrupting surface proteins. And since ions travel within the air stream, they clean the air everywhere — including un- seen spaces.
Apadana has selected the Needlepoint Bipolar Ioniza- tion System (NPBITM) from Global Plasma Solutions to fulfill the needs of facility owners across the spectrum. The NPBI system is highly affordable and cost-effective to install. These systems are operating in over 250,000 facilities, including over 1,000 K-12 schools, hospitals, sports arena, hotels, offices, and government buildings including the White House.
Ultraviolet Light.
UV air purifiers work a bit differently. These systems are installed in ducts, usually near the HVAC unit, and clean the air as it moves through. The UV light (specifically us- ing the wavelength UV-C) mimics the antimicrobial power of sunlight. This system, instead of attempting to filter out previously charged particles that were re- leased and recaptured later, essentially eradicates mold spore and pathogens completely on the spot.

Leveraging our deep expertise in lighting technology, Apadana has identified and qualified an ultraviolet light -based system that is capable of killing airborne patho- gens with kill rates as high as 99.9% as confirmed by the Center for Disease Control. What’s more, when UV air treatment is implemented, the facility can then use a lower-efficiency (and less costly) air filter to remove them from the air.
Our 72 watt professional grade UV air treatment system will kill odors, mold, bacteria and viruses in HVAC sys- tems. The completely sealed unit can be quickly in- stalled by our electricians, meeting facility owner needs for an affordable solution.

Occupant Screening
Beyond facility protection, Apadana offers a broad suite of products and services that can provide building owners with capabilities to create a level of protection for building occupants who are returning to onsite work following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Apadana’s fully automated kiosk can be deployed at facility entry points for unattended screening of occupants. The kiosk can utilize facial recognition, take body temperature, quiz users on health status, and even be integrated with door locks such that the entry door is opened when the occupant passes the screening. While depend- ent on user cooperation, the kiosk can provide a first-line of defense without deploying expensive human resources at building entry points. The kiosk is available in a desktop or standalone version (shown here).
In addition to entry screening, or as an alternative, Apadana can supply a variety of other products which can be used to capture occupant body temperatures for self evaluation including infrared thermometers and finger pulse ox readers.

Personal Protection Equipment
Many facility owners provide personal protec- tion equipment for building occupants. To meet these needs, Apadana offers a broad array of products, available for bulk purchase at highly attractive prices. Some of these products include:
-
Portable clear acrylic protective panels and floor stickers for social distancing.
